70's IN THIS SUMMER

Welcome 70's
1976 Gainsbourg, Birkin in hotpants
In that era people were influenced by many factors as nowadays. Hollywood had been creating its way into fashion, but also music, politics, the culture of being in the street was so difficult to avoid... Celebrities were the icons of millions of teenagers and many trends were developed.

It was saturday night fever that introduce again this kind of disco suit, the white was a very important  colour back then it represented the minimalism that to us now seem so retro.

Saturday night fever
This outfit had its peak at the film scarface, it was based on the very late 70's and early 80's fashion. Claiming "the world is mine" Al Pacino, made this suit the face of the success but also the face of excess in my opinion.

This suits were modified to suit better the female figure. They also started to vary the length as well as the way the pieces were combined.

Glamour was the definition of studio 54, a club, well i will rephrase that, THE club, that opened its door in 1977. It was the place where the most famous people (hollywood stars, painters, writers, models....) used to mingle. There the most amazing and edgy dresses were displayed every night.

If Hats were the compliment of that moment then the garment were the "hotpants" or what we would translate to shorts. Models were not considered anymore bodies without faces, they were actually fashion icons, and as in these both cases (Birkin and Verushka) they were the fashion designer's muses.

Marc Jacobs' collection is all about hotpants, hats, and sheer dresses. I find outstanding how he based on all this retro items this modern seem something so new for any eye.

Music was very fashionable in these days, and what a better example than The Runways. An american teenager female group that pushed the rock and roll further into the teenagers if that was possible.

Runaways

they evolved a naive look into the fiercest and most seductive one.

There was an adaptation in a film from this real history of the group, It is also called the Runways. I was very impressed by the accuracy of the costumes very from the 70's, as well as from the facts that made this group so famous (which i ignored).

Another feature in common between the 70's and this summer, is the combination of the bright colours.
After the flower power boom, they went on with the colour mixing, and as a result we have this strong juxtaposition of the tones.

I hope you didn't think that the plisse is a brand new trend for this summer and you read the plisse post, well, anyways, it was quite common in this decade to use this fabric.

Stripes, were a big thing during those years, as well as many other geometric figures. Even the most Classy people felt innovative enough to wear them.

There was also a wave to orientalize clothing, many advertising campaigns were based in the dessert as today's fashion. People wanted to be considered cosmopolitan, and they reflected that in the way they looked.

I hope this post have influence you enough to create your 70's look, but please do not end up looking like you are in a costume, try to be innovative with something and your outfit will not be out of fashion.
