BEIJING ROMANCE

If we put together pearls and China at night, (+beauty, +fashion, +love/+disafecction, aswell) would we be able to come up with such amazing pictures?

Vogue China have done it this month, the people responsible for it...
Peter Lindbergh - Photographer
Natalia Vodianova - Model
Zhao Lei - Model
Nicoletta Santoro - Fashion Editor/Stylist
Odile Gilbert - Hair Stylist
Lucia Pica - Makeup Artist

What I love about it, are all the face expressions Natalia Vodianova performs, she really looks heart broken. In terms of fashion I think the white dresses couldn´t be more appropriate, not only for being one of the most important trend for this summer, but because it contrasts with the darkness and also with the colourful electrics installations that portraits China. I also like the messy sophisticated short hairstyle that makes a childish look that contradictorily is on a well dressed woman.

ANDRES, the bodyguard

When I was in Spain this past weekend, I did my homework and that is: buy Vogue (Spain) and drink it. Towards the end of the magazine I found one of our international most handsome man, Andres Velencoso.

I found him in a photo shoot together with Erin Wasson called ¨El Guardaespaldas¨or as you may say ¨the Bodyguard¨. Very nice the title, It evokes the movie produced in the 90´s where Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston fell in this love between a star and her official protector.
I really think Andres Velencoso was the most convenient male model for this little photographic story, and no, I don´t mean it because he is dating the huge star Kyle Minogue; but beacuse his beauty is very masculine and sober, he transmits this sense of protection and respectfulness women are desperately looking for.

CHRISTINA ECONOMOU

This three weeks have been mad, i have done so much in just a few days, sorry if i haven´t post as much as you expect me to...
I finished my exams last week on thursday, before the graduate fashion show was held in London from the 5th to the 8th of June and i was there to help. Last weekend I was in Madrid to assist to my sister´s graduation, this wednesday I went to Pembroke´s May Ball, in Cambridge, and finally yesterday it was Marangoni graduation show, and i went to help as well.

So much going on, but in terms of fashion I want to talk about someone, before going through the graduation fashion show (GFW), and before telling you how was Maragoni fashion show as well.

Christina Economou

I want to anticipate you a name you are gonna strictly associate with fashion in a few years time, or maybe less...
A greek student, graduate from Istituto Marangoni, from the Paris campus, and
winner of the International award of GFW 2011.

I had the pleasure to watched her collection twice, both in GFW and Marangoni London graduate show. furthermore, i had the huge chance to see and feel her stunning outfits so close they were in my hands.

How come? well, when I got to the backstage of GFW as dressers, We were asked to pick up a model, I went directly to the cloths I liked the most, they were 6 outfits and the third one I remember it was one of Christina´s. It consist in a silky tight colourfull printed skirt, a bodice made of a shinny silk printed with intense blue lines forming checks, and an airy black and white overgarment that moved very gracefully as the model walked, I was amazed.

I also remember, She was constantly looking after her garments and the models, putting the right shoes in place, letting us know how she wanted the garment to be fasten, the delicate parts of them, she was very nice and extremely caring...
That is real dedication to Fashion, it indicates a lot, she is not just talented but hard working. For all that, if you remember her name, you will be able to say ¨Yep, I saw that one coming¨.

NUN´s STYLE

Pray to have it, and Love the way it is...
1960, las monjas en las cruces

Claudia Schiffer

For three consecutive years, designers has captured the gestures and garments from the monasteries, to bring that into the Fashion shows, and therefore the new trends. Colours as black and white, long concealing garments, wide fabrics that hide the women´s shape, triangular hoods and capes have promoted this Nun look, so sober and abstemious.

From 2009 examples like: Rick Owens, Fendi, Jean Paul Gaultier or Bruno Pieters...

Pop Magazine in the autumn winter in 2008, did an editorial showing the relationship between fashion and religion, I selected this two images to show that sometimes, unfortunately not always people in the media treat religion with respect.

The visionary in this photo shoot was Muccia Prada (stylist), and the photographer Sebastian Faena.

Yves Saint Laurent 2010 A/W, presented an amazing (seriously, one of my favourites) collection. It had all this Nun feeling through all the show, but rather than resulting boring, or too dark... the combination of new materials like plastic films, with traditonals, and the sudden intense colours, made the show a total success.

In 1959 Audrey Hepburn stared "the Nun´s history" telling the life of a nun, how she was meant to be and the difficulties she found in her everyday way of living. Now that watching classics is so common among people in our twenties, please rescue this movie, becasue is a must be seen.

 1962 St.Ursula semi cloistered

In 2011 (spring summer) Hussein Chayalan has proposed outfits that has such a spiritual strenght that somehow remind me to those paintings by Zurbaran about saints and monks, specially to Saint Seranpion. Surely, that might be just my impression.

I hope you take note of this gracefulness idea, because this trend might be continued not only in catwalks but downed to street style!

DOWNTOWN

Vogue Paris presents...
DOWNTOWN

Love the combination of classics garments but oversized + a punk look + a very 50´s feeling, +the romantic armospehere of Paris as the background, great photo shoot. Pay atention to the little socks, and 3/4 long trousers as well as the scarf to hold the hair, it is the most common feature of Shorderitch style, and is spreading pretty fast.
